In an announcement posted by Beth Galetti, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, on Wednesday, the company said the layoffs are part of an ongoing process to reduce layers, increase ownership and remove bureaucracy from the company.

Tech giant Amazon said on Wednesday it planned to cut about 16,000 employees as it seeks to "strengthen" its business by reducing "layers" and "bureaucracy" within its workforce.

Amazon has confirmed that it’s letting go of 16,000 workers and employees across its organization.

The broad understanding among employees had been that bosses intended to cut a total of around 30,000 roles, added the former employee, who left the company as part of the cuts in October.
